Random: Wacky Songs
It occurred to me that over the years I've put together some pretty random songs on the side, in addition to the songs I write for Negative Ken and Bayard and Friends. I collected them all in one place your listening enjoyment. Eat your heart out, Andrew Pants.
1. Chemicals - this demo is for a DJ collaboration I'm doing with Udachi, but it sounds interesting on its own. I'm looking forward to what the finished version will sound like after Udachi chops it up like a salad and serves it cold.
2. I Like Giants - I recorded a manic version of Kimya Dawson's classic on Garageband, of all things. Doesn't sound half bad for being recorded out of a webcam mic.
3. Stones V. Bones - This one warrants some explanation. It's the fictional theme song for futuristic heavy metal supergroup Stones Versus Bones, which is an homage to Spinal Tap. Don't ask how this one got started.
4. Spiderman Jacket - I wrote this homage to the Ramones homage to Spiderman when I was on the subway and saw a kid wearing a Spiderman jacket. The next day I saw a different kid wearing a Spiderman backpack. If I had been looking the other way that first day, would the song be about a backpack instead?
5. Shasta The Lonely Liger - This song actually has a minor following on the web, believe it or not. On a trip to Utah I learned about Shasta, a real-life half-lion half-tiger who was 10 feet long, sterile, and mentally retarded, and this inspired me to write a novelty song and make a tribute page to the big fella.
Just discovered a recent album review from Ink9. Thanks for the review! This may come off as somewhat pretentious, but I feel like this reviewer kind of "gets it"...it's the first review I've gotten where the reviewer saw what I was going for when I made it. Plus I love the way he phrased it: "listening to him grope his way through life is a calming experience." :-)
